Consumer or data-center, the same form
The sizes tell them apart. Consumer drives come in 250GB, 500GB, 1TB, 2TB and 4TB; drives pulled from servers come in 240GB, 480GB, 960GB, 1.92TB, 3.84TB and 7.68TB, and older write-intensive models in sizes such as 400GB and 800GB. Thickness and caddies
Most 2.5-inch SSDs are 7mm thick; some older and enterprise drives are thicker. Thickness does not change the offer. Drive trays and caddies from a server are welcome in the box but are not priced.
Before it ships
Wipe it if it still works. A SATA drive can be securely erased with its maker’s tool, or with the Secure Erase option many motherboard firmwares offer.
